Kill the Fear. Thanks, AI Slop x

Getting back into writing things to post on the internet has been harder than I expected. There’s a muscle that I’ve let atrophy over the past decade to where I don’t even post to social media now without double checking every single word. Most of the time I give up and leave it all in drafts. I basically don’t put anything out there. For a chronic catastrophiser, why risk accidentally offending someone and getting screenshot in the face?

But now there’s a convenient excuse! With so many people putting ‘original’ content out there, which is obvious copy-pasta from some AI, which hasn’t even remotely been read by a human, I can blame all my fuck-ups and social faux-pas on an imaginary copy writing agent. Obviously mine is slightly more advanced. We’ve gone past the “quietly X, Y and Z”, “it’s not this; it’s that” stage. (Like pleaseee, this blog was using “delved” and threw out the em-dash like that way back in 2015. Go check the archive.) This particular agent intentionally adds spelling mistakes, grammatical errors and hesitantly gives incorrect facts all the way through to make it feel so much more natural. If you spot them, feel free to point them out to help me train me the model.

Seriously though, for an overthinker who tends to doubt their own ability, I’ve previously found solace in learning the White Male Confidence method. Where every time you think you’re not qualified/smart/capable enough at work, you imagine yourself as a thoroughly average balding dude in their late 40s, probably called Steve or Adam, and consider if you’d be ballsy enough to put the same work forward. Usually your inner-Steve would’ve already demo-ed their concept to the CEO while you were still researching the safety and security implications. ChatGPT and Claude have given us the same for writing shit online. Do you have enough words? Have you asked a couple of rhetorical questions to really make them think? Have you written a bunch of lists in threes? Perfect. Post it. This isn’t a thoughtful well-written Substack; it’s innovative nonsense blog trash online. We're vibe blogging now, baby!

Xoxo
